AmeriTi Parts Develops Water Soluble Feedstocks to Minimize Interstitial Contamination in Titanium MIM Components

Due to the reactive nature of titanium, debinding of metal injection molded parts cannot be carried out at elevated temperature. To minimize contamination of titanium MIM parts, AmeriTi has developed a system that allows binder removal to occur at ambient temperature in water to make a brown part and low temperature vacuum to remove the backbone prior to sintering. This unique process prevents reaction with the volatile binder components that can raise the oxygen, hydrogen and carbon levels and cause embrittlement of titanium and its alloys. Feedstocks have been carefully developed to be free from shear and easily injected at low temperatures.
